AWM Surface Finishing Technology

Plastic components with permanently functionalized surfaces are becoming increasingly widely used. For example, in the form of lenses for compact optical systems, diffraction gratings for light coupling or holograms for visual effects. A further field of application is beam forming.

AWM has many years of experience in manufacturing injection molds with cavities that fulfill optical requirements. Surfaces featuring extremely low roughness (Ra < 5nm) can be produced for applications such as lenses or waveguides. Micro- or nanostructures can be used if the wave front needs to be modulated.

AWM’s experience is based, among other things, on more than 5000 molds for data media (CDs, DVDs, BDs) in use worldwide. AWM has developed special cooling technologies and acquired very wide-ranging process expertise to enable it to produce with ever shorter cycle times.
